Do you know where you are going?

Today I wanted to talk to you a little bit about knowing your destination. Now, what do I mean by that? Is this going to be the same old spiel about goal setting and making your to-do list and all that? No. Let me put it this way…

Last night I walked into JFK airport with my bag and stood in line to check in. When I stand before the attendant,  I can’t walk in and say, “I want to get on a plane to anywhere but here.”

She would not know how to ticket that. Or charge for that. Or where to send my bag. I wouldn’t know how to pack for that.

Because there is no plane that goes to anywhere but here. You have to know where you are going.

You have to have your mid or end destination in mind, otherwise you don’t know where you’re going, you won’t know which direction to go and most importantly you won’t know when (or if) you get there.

Your business is the same way. You have to choose a destination. A target. A goal. A benchmark.

You have to choose an income goal, you have to choose a position or an accomplishment or a level that you want to reach, that you want to achieve. You have to decide what results you want and then you have to put the quality consistent effective effort into that.

So, don’t show up at the airport and say, “Destination anywhere but here.” It just doesn’t exist. Say, “This is where I’m going. This is how I plan to get there.” Then every day you take several steps, several quality consistent effective actions to get you towards that destination.

Before you know it you will be amazed at the progress you’ve made. You will be stunned at yourself. You’ll be proud of yourself and you will also be more profitable than you ever dreamed.
