I dig marketing. I really do LOVE it! For you, this may not be the case. I know that marketing isn’t a sexy term and some of you may even be intimidated by it. You may think it is scary or break out in a cold sweat just thinking about having to market your business. However you feel about marketing going in, I want you learn to embrace it and see why it is really is sweet for your business. You

may be familiar with my ABCs of Marketing, which has a marketing tip for every letter from A-Z . If you haven’t already grabbed that resource, go get it because it will help you get down to the nitty gritty of marketing. Today, I want to stir up excitement about this success principle and give you some action steps to get you going.

I’ve heard it explained that sales is nothing more than transferring enthusiasm. Ultimately, you want to get someone else excited about what you have to offer and inspire them to action. Marketing is what you need in order to motivate, or move them to action. You do want them to buy your stuff, right? Well, then, you are going to need to get cozy with marketing if you want to sell more of what you have to offer.

You may still be asking, “But Carrie, what IS marketing anyway?!?”
Marketing is everything that has to do with you and the package of your business.
Everything.

This includes but is not limited to your:
• Printed materials
• Website
• newsletter
• E-zine
• Email address
• Voice when you answer your phone
• Cell phone
• Landline phone
• Voicemail greeting

Everything that shows the picture of your business is a marketing message. It’s up to you to decide if that message is a positive, negative, or neutral one. We know we don’t want a negative message and we really don’t even want a neutral message either. Remember we are transferring enthusiasm. We are moving them to action. So neutral just isn’t going to cut it. We want to send a positive marketing message throughout every available medium available when it comes to presenting your business.

Take a look at everything that has anything to do with your marketing message. Tackle these areas to get started:

• Phone, email, fax: If you don’t have several ways for your customer to get in touch with you, I am going to challenge you by saying you aren’t really serious about your business.
• Website: It doesn’t have to be fancy but it does have to be effective & professional.
• Yourself: The way you present yourself, both in person and online, is sending a big marketing message. How is your professional mage? How do you talk about your business? Do you know the glossary of your business? How do you carry yourself? How do you discuss your business?

Once you’ve had a heart to heart with your current marketing effort, sign up for Marketing From A to Z to get down to the nitty gritty of marketing. Get excited, intentional, and focused on sending positively radiant marketing messages from every angle. If you will do this, you will start seeing why marketing made it into this sweet packet of M&Ms of success for your business.
