Success Is In the M&Ms: Mastery
Success Is In the M&Ms: Mastery
We’re back to the packet of M&Ms for Success. We’ve already covered mindset, motivation, and marketing. I hope you are seeing the sweet rewards that come from focusing on these “M” principles. Today, I want to talk about mastery and why it is so important that you earn while you learn.
First, I want to be clear that mastery and perfection are not the same thing. There is not one thing in my life that I do to perfection but I am still effective in everything I do. This is what I want for you too! Don’t get stuck in analysis paralysis thinking that you can’t move forward until you have it all just right. It will never be perfect. Stop wasting time waiting for perfection and instead pursue mastery while being profitable along the way.
I am very profitable even though no area in my life is perfect. You can earn while you learn. I am living proof! My presentations aren’t perfect. My writing isn’t perfect. My videos aren’t perfect. BUT I am effective and I am profitable and I am helping others become better and better at what they do WHILE I am getting better and better at what I do. I’m doing all of that RIGHT NOW! All coming from a place that isn’t perfect. I’m here to tell you from experience that you can earn while you learn and make a difference while you are honing your craft.
I want you to stop waiting and trying and striving for everything to be perfect. Instead, focus on being profitable. Make your goal with mastery to be enthusiastic about always getting better and better at what you do while you are getting paid along the way. If you wait to put yourself out there once you’ve achieved mastery, you’ll never get there. You will give up from trying so hard and starve to death in the process. Don’t waste your life pursuing perfect. Be earning, learning, helping, and serving all along the way.
I want you to achieve mastery while you’re taking effective action. You can do this by:
• Reading effective books
• Studying effective mentors
• Working with your coach
• Getting in front of your audience
Never stop learning and wanting to be better but don’t allow that desire for mastery to make you afraid to take action. Remember that mastery doesn’t mean that you have it all figured out. When you are committed to mastery, you are staying one step ahead of your market and you are continually learning in order to be excellent at what you do. Does that describe you? I hope so.
Take inventory of what needs to happen while you pursue mastery:
• What areas need attention?
• What books do you need to read?
• What classes do you need to take?
Make a list of all of your answers and commit to earning while you’re learning. Take effective action every day as you move through each item on your list but don’t be afraid to get out there and get in front of your marketplace while you are achieving mastery. Focus on being profitable and do not be discouraged that you won’t ever be able to do it all perfectly. Your audience needs you pursue mastery. You and your family need you to be compensated for your work along the way. You really can earn while you learn once you shift your thinking from needing to be perfect to instead learning to be effective while being profitable.
